Concerts in the Park starts Friday, May 6. This is the 25th year of free concerts on Friday nights. Kicking off the 2016 season: James Cavern, Tessa Evans, Current Personae, and DJ Epik. The fun starts at 5 pm Friday and is free for all ages.
While you’re on the grid Saturday night you may notice a gaggle of Superfolk on bicycles. The Bike Party hosts monthly themed rides and May is nothing short of super. Pick a side as Superheroes vs Supervillians make their way through town during #MayIsBikeMonth.
The 20th Annual Race for the Cure will convene at Cal Expo Saturday morning. The races start at 9 am and vary in cost ($15-50). 10k, 5k, and 1-mile distances are available to runners of all ages.
Too much pink for you at the Race for the Cure? Chill out at Wanderlust 108. Billed as a “field day for your body”, the event includes yoga, meditation, a 5k, and a myriad of local vendors. Tickets vary in price ($20-49), and the day starts at 7:30 am in Southside Park.
Embrace your inner arborist and peek at the trees in Capitol Park during a guided tree tour Saturday at 10 am. Free, but be sure to register online.
A tree tour not enough to satiate your need for green? Pop into the Sacramento Cactus and Succulent Show May 7-8 at the Shepard Garden Art Center on McKinley Blvd. Entry is free.
In case you forgot, Mother’s Day is this Sunday, the 8th. If it slipped your mind, it’s not too late to grab a hand-made thingamajig. The Sacramento Indie Craft Fair takes place Saturday, May 7. Drop in, grab a brew and browse local maker’s creations starting at noon.
If mama is super rad and comic books are more her speed, Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. Pick up one for her and two for you at Empire’s Comics Vault on Fulton starting at 9 am.
